Most modern automated parking system in the US starts operation in residential tower in Philadelphia

Philadelphia/Warburg, [06/February/2025] – Located in the center of Philadelphia, the most advanced automated parking system is now operating at “210 South 12th”, a 31-story residential tower designed by Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners (RSHP) in collaboration with Midwood Design Studio and BLT Architects. On behalf of the developer, New York-based Midwood Investment & Development, the automated parking system by Lödige Industries was installed on three levels in the basement of the building in order to create sufficient parking spaces for the vehicles of the residents of the exclusive apartments. A total of 90 vehicles can be automatically parked in the system, 85 of which can be charged electrically.

Access to the sophisticated parking system is provided via two cabins. Users identify themselves with RFID-fobs and simply drive into the cabin and position their vehicle on a pallet. The rest is fully automatic. First, the safety equipment scans the cabin to ensure nothing was accidentally left behind and to measure the size, and particularly the height of the car. This allows the RESPACE algorithm to find the most efficient parking position for each car. Then, a hoist transports the vehicle downwards. Every level has a grid of parking pallets, each equipped with its own conveyors and motor to enable the simultaneous movement of multiple pallets for more speed and efficiency. As with a sliding puzzle, the pallet is moved into a free position.

“There is a high demand for parking facilities in many urban areas across the US. Automated parking systems are ideal at making efficient use of limited space. They also improve the speed and convenience of the parking process, as well as improving security for the parked vehicles and drivers alike. We would like to thank Midwood for allowing us to demonstrate this once again at this exceptional building,” explains Jonathan Hardy, Managing Director North America, at Lödige Industries.

Lödige Industries has more than three decades of experience and has already installed more than 85 automated parking systems worldwide. Innovative parking technologies enable efficiently, safety and quick ways of parking vehicles – whether it’s for just a few or up to 1,000 and more cars.
